Overview
A four day course aimed at company senior operational ship managers who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Company Security Officer (CSO), defined by the International Ship and Pod Facility Security (ISPS) Code section A/2.1.7 and A/11.
Course Objectives:
- To understand the threats and impacts of terrorism on the maritime industry (Ships and Ports) as well as terrorist characteristics, weapons and devices.
- To have a sound knowledge of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and amendments to SOLAS.
- To understanding the maritime security policy and EU regulations as well as the maritime security organisation, including security roles and responsibilities.
- To hones sound knowledge of risk management principles and the principles of security and surveillance equipment, maintenance and calibration.
- To hence sound knowledge of the Ship Security Assessment (SSA) and the Ship Security Plan (SSP).
- To understand the ship security actions and the pod interface (inc notice of arrivals and declarations of security).
- To have a sound knowledge of how to identify a threat and what the correct response is.
- To understand Anti-Piracy drills and Best Management Practices, Citadels and contingencies.
- To be knowledgeable when engaging with private maritime security companies (PMSC's).
- To be able to understand the reasons for and how to do security administration, audit verification, documentation and records.
- To understand the importance of continuous support and interface with on board Ship Security Officers (SSO).
