The STCW Proficiency in Medical First Aid course is designed for those working on board a ship who’s designated job it is to take swift action in the case of an illness or injury on board.
This is a first aid course designed specifically with seafarers in mind, and as such covers topics such as spinal injuries, dislocations, wounds and bleeding, head injuries and temperature extremes amongst others.
This role must be fulfilled acting in accordance with STCW A-V1/4 (1-3),and is accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency MCA.
Proficiency in Medical First Aid covers both theoretical and practical elements of instruction, equipping those who attend with the ability to administer first aid at sea with in depth knowledge and confidence.
This course also covers use of an Automated External Defibrillation AED unit.
Medical First Aid is not a course required as part of the STCW 95/2010 Basic Safety Training course.
