Description

A mariner who successfully completes our Instrumentation (MIDATL-230) course will satisfy:

The Control System training requirements of 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(xi) for STCW endorsements as OICEW on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW / 1,000 HP propulsion power or more; AND
The Engineering Terminology training requirements of 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(v) for STCW endorsements as OICEW on vessels powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 KW / 1,000 HP propulsion power or more; AND
The following specific TASKs from the OICEW NVIC 17-14: 6.3.A, 7.2.A and 7.2.B;

Applicants are not required to present the completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.

The course objectives is to instruct the student in the areas relevant to Control Systems at the Operational Level, in doing so, satisfy company, national and international regulations as stated in Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping tables- A-III/1, and section B-III/1, for competence in knowledge of the following:

Table A-III/1 Specification of minimum standard of competence for officers in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or designated duty engineers in a periodically unmanned engine-room.

Function: Electrical, electronic and control engineering at the operational level

Competence: Operate electrical, electronic and control systems

Knowledge, understanding, and proficiency:

  • Basic configuration and operation principles of the following electrical, electronic and control equipment:

  • Various automatic control methodologies and characteristics
  • Proportional–Integral–Derivative (PID) control characteristics and associated system devices for process control

Competence: Maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic equipment

Knowledge, understanding, and proficiency:

  • Safety requirements for working on shipboard electrical systems, including the safe isolation of electrical equipment required before personnel are permitted to work on such equipment
  • Maintenance and repair of electrical system equipment, switchboards, electric motors, generator and DC electrical systems and equipment
  • Detection of electric malfunction, location of faults and measures to prevent damage
  • Construction and operation of electrical testing and measuring equipment
  • Function and performance tests of the following equipment and their configuration
    • monitoring systems
    • automatic control devices
    • protective devices
  • The interpretation of electrical and simple electronic diagrams
