Masters on Norwegian International Ships Register (NIS) vessels must be Norwegian or EEA nationals, or obtain a special exemption from the Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA). Masters with foreign certificates must take a course in Norwegian maritime legislation and possess a valid Norwegian endorsment.
