During the 3 day course you will gain a better understanding of how to:

maintain and supervise the implementation of a ship security plan
assess security risks, threat and vulnerability
undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
ensure that security and systems, if any, are properly operated, tested and calibrated
encourage security awareness and vigilance.
The course will include videos, group discussions, radio communication exercise, trainer led presentations, search exercises and ship security plan development.

Delegates will be required to complete a short exam paper to test their understanding, upon successful completion delegates will be issued with a certificate and will be able to undertake the duties and responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer.

Regulation VI/5, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/5, paragraphs 1 to 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended and incorporates Proficiency in Security Awareness and Designated Security Duties laid down in Regulation VI/6 and section A-VI/6 of the STCW Convention and Code

Entry Requirements

Those undertaking training must have either:

Approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months or
Minimum of 3 months' appropriate seagoing service* allowing you to gain knowledge of ships operations to enable to you achieve the objects of the training
*Appropriate seagoing experience is where a crew member is signed onto a vessel and their main duties are security related.
