The aim of the course is to give seafarers the essential education and training to thost that are required to take charge of a Fast Rescue Boat, with particularly focus on:

- Understand the construction, maintenance, repair and outfitting of fast rescue boats.
- Take charge of the launching equipment and appliance as commonly fitted, during launching and recovery.
- Take charge of a fast rescue boat as commonly fitted, during launching and recovery.
- Take charge of a fast rescue boat after launching.
- Operate a fast rescue boat engine.

- waterborne cap-size and re-boarding and casualty (35kg Ruth Lee) recovery scenarios in our Survival Pool unaided

Our course is run with an outboard engine boat.

The course will include videos, group discussions, trainer led presentations, practical boat capsizing in the survival pool, fast rescue boat operation and handling, man overboard techniques, search patterns, weather handling, coming alongside and launching techniques.

Delegates will be assessed throughout the course with a short written exam upon completion.

Trainer to delegate ratio of 1:24 for theory elements and 1:8 for practical sessions.

Delegates will be required to successfully and safely complete the practical exercises and complete a short exam in conjunction with positive observations throughout the course, in order to be issued with an MCA approved STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats certificate; Regulation VI/2, paragraph 2 and Section A-VI/2, paragraphs 7 to 10 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978 as amended.

Failure to complete the practical elements of the course will be deemed as a course failure. Should you have any injuries that you feel may prevent you from completing the practical elements of the course it is advisable to rebook at later date once you are fit and well.

The STCW requirement for refresher training at 5-yearly intervals must be met or sufficient onboard evidence must be provided.

Upon completion of the course you will be presented with the original certificate.

PPE will be provided. We recommend that you wear clothing suitable for waterborne exercises (i.e. warm layers) relevant to the prevailing conditions. For warmer weather it is recommended that you bring with you some sunscreen.

For the pool-based exercises you will need to wear t-shirt/shorts over your swimming costume and remember to bring a towel. Please remove all jewellery. Showers are provided onsite.

 

Entry Requirements

Prerequisites:
PSCRB Certificate.

- Be at least 18 years of age
- Hold a Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than fast rescue boats)
- This course will include a waterborne capsize and re-boarding scenario in our Survival Pool which you will need to demonstrate unaided to pass. Casualty recovery will involve a 35kg Ruth Lee manikin.
NOTE: Due to the physically demanding nature of this course you will be required to complete a Fitness Declaration form on the day to make us aware of any medical issues, injuries or disabilities. This form will be shared with the trainers for awareness. If you have any concerns regarding fitness please contact us to discuss further.
