Course Overview:

This course is designed to advance basic firefighting knowledge and to enhance the skills of the delegate in leadership and organisation of teams of personnel. Each student must take charge of a team and/or area of operations during an exercise.

This course is structured around practical search and rescue techniques, casualty evacuation, and live fire exercises. The course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the theory of fire within an on-board environment together with a familiarity with the use and maintenance of fixed and portable firefighting equipment.

The course consists of 4 days training from highly experienced and qualified instructors. All training aids, equipment and hand-outs are provided.

Course Syllabus:

Day 1: Induction, Aims and Learning Outcomes; Health & Safety brief,basic fire awareness, fixed installations, fire parties and muster groups, fire extinguisher theory, practical fire extinguisher and hose work.Exercise planning allowing student input.

Day 2: Physiology of respiration, CABA (Drager PA 94) and BA control leading to search and rescue techniques and practical exercises.

Day 3: Stability considerations when firefighting SAR with breathing apparatus. Exercises in light smoke and live fire conditions Exercise de-brief.

Day 4: Ventilation Live multi-fire SAR exercises various entries, casualty evacuation Exercise de-brief Fire detection and prevention End of Course de-brief and issue of certificates.

COURSE PRE REQUISITES:

Delegates must have successfully completed the STCW’95 Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (Section A-VI/1-2 of the STCW Code) or similar training acceptable to the MCA.

VENUE:

This course is held at our training facility in Whitby and Grangetown near Middlesbrough. The purpose built firefighting training centre includes modern, fully equipped training rooms and simulated ship environments for practical applications. There is an on-site canteen and ample car parking.

An STCW'95 approved certificate (MCA) Advanced Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting will be issued upon successful completion of the course.
