Assessment
Ongoing assessment on the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course with an end of course mini project to prepare a given course for delivery.
Teaching
Classroom based theory with group exercises.
Accreditation/Approval
MCA as per the STCW Code Regulation A-I/6 and IMO Model Course 6.09
Description
The course is designed in line with IMO Model Course 6.09 to provide candidates the required knowledge and skills to become a qualified instructor as required under the MNTB and MCA guidelines for STCW courses.
The 5 day course provides training in the method of instruction for marine trainers at sea and ashore. The course covers the principles of training, course development in alignment with STCW Code and Convention as well as presentation, delivery and evaluation techniques, specifically for the maritime industry. Main topics covered during the course include:
- Understand the requirements for STCW competency based training;
- Plan for effective teaching;
- Effectively use teaching and training aids;
- Develop a timetable and lesson plan;
- Evaluate teaching and learning;
- Design a course of study;
All successful candidates will be issued with course completion certificate.
