A 30 hour practical course dismantling marine engines and auxiliaries to obtain component exposure and create a full appreciation and understanding of the working principles. This will include basic maintenance, legislation, safety, good practice, housekeeping and reduction of fire hazards. The aim is to provide familiarisation, confidence and ability to diagnose and repair defects in operational machinery.

The AEC qualification will permit the holder to serve as:

• Chief Engineer on vessels over 24m less than 200 GT with a maximum main propulsion power of 1500 kW at a maximum range of 60 miles from a safe haven.

OR:

• Second Engineer on vessels under 200 GT with max. 3000 kW power – at a maximum range of 150 miles from a safe haven.

Entry Requirements

Clients must be over 18 years and have one month of sea service in any rank.
