Course Overview

The STCW for Cruise Ships programme includes:

  • STCW Basic Safety Training
  • Personal Survival Techniques
  • Fire Prevention and Firefighting

  • Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
  • Proficiency in Security Awareness

Crowd Management
Required for crew working on passenger ships. Focuses on how to manage and assist groups of passengers in emergency situations.

Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
A one-day course for crew listed on the ship’s Muster List. Covers leadership, communication, and managing passenger behaviour during emergencies.

Training is a mix of classroom-based sessions and practical exercises. Candidates will use real safety equipment, including breathing apparatus, fire hoses, and life rafts.

Location

The course takes place at a purpose-built MCA-approved training centre in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, UK. The centre is equipped with modern facilities and led by experienced maritime instructors.

Accommodation

Optional self-catering accommodation is available for £290 for the duration of the course. Located a short walk from both the training centre and Cowes town centre, it offers a convenient and sociable base for students.

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for anyone preparing for a role aboard a cruise ship, particularly where STCW compliance is a requirement.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal pre-course requirements, but you must be 18 or over to enrol on this course.

Fire Fighting and Personal Survival are physically demanding and require a good fitness level.

We recommend that all customers complete an ENG1 medical or equivalent medical before enrolling on this course. If you have concerns about your fitness, then please get in touch with Flying Fish.

For successful completion, 100% attendance is required, and students are expected to participate in all parts of the course.

This course is delivered in English therefore, you must understand spoken and written English to pass any verbal or written course assessments.

Parts of our STCW for cruise ships will include written and practical assessments. Customers will be awarded a certificate on successful completion of all assessments.
