The academy offers a programme leading to STCW ’95 III/2 second engineer (2EO) certification by an engineering knowledge (EK) exam route. The exams are conducted by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) on behalf of the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA).
All candidates must have obtained a Notice of Eligibility (NoE) from the MCA in advance of the course.
This programme is designed for candidates who hold MCA exemptions in academic subjects or who have successfully completed the appropriate SQA academic exams (Mathematics and Engineering Drawing, Applied Heat, Mechanics, and Naval Architecture and Electrotechnology), as specified on the returned NoE.
Candidates will be required to undertake an MCA oral exam and must also complete Human Element, Leadership & Management (Management Level) and High Voltage (Management Level) courses.
Entry Requirements
Minimum 12 months' sea service (including nine months as a watchkeeping engineer officer) while holding STCW ‘95 Table A III/1 Certificate of Competency (Watchkeeper).
A valid personal medical fitness certificate recognised by the MCA.
