4.4 Average rating: Read reviews

Warsash Maritime School has provided first class education, training, consultancy and research services to the international shipping, commercial yacht, and offshore oil and gas industries for over 70 years.

As part of Solent University, Southampton, we benefit from a strong organisational and quality assurance infrastructure to maintain exceptional standards of teaching and service delivery.

We are the world’s premier maritime education and training provider and part of a prestigious innovation hub, which includes other schools and services within Solent University, and our reputable training and business services partners.

What we do

We provide high quality education and training for the maritime industries to meet the growing international demand for crew, officers and captains who are trained to the highest professional standards. Navigation, marine engineer and marine electro-technical officers benefit from our internationally recognised certification programmes, from initial entry as an officer cadet up to Master (Captain) and Chief Engineer level.

We also provide a range of short safety training courses (mandatory and non-mandatory) to all maritime personnel for development of skills such as firefighting and sea survival, as well as continuous professional development modules for more experienced officers.

We pioneered the use of bridge, engine room and liquid cargo operations simulators for higher level training, and our specialist ship handling training facility at Timsbury Lake is the only one in the United Kingdom and one of only a few major centres in the world.

As part of a higher education institution, we also provide a number of opportunities for professional and personal development and further study up to Master’s degree level.

I recently had the misfortune of attending Warsash Maritime Academy, and I must say, it was a thoroughly disappointing experience on multiple fronts. What once was a great institution has been utterly ruined under the new Solent managementWhile the academy’s short courses are relatively good, the longer Experienced Seafarer route is terrible. Most lecturers were not native English speakers, making it difficult to understand their instructions and explanations. This language barrier added an unnecessary layer of complexity to an already challenging course, leaving many students feeling lost and unsupported.

Lastly, the attitudes towards the course and students leave much to be desired. There is a pervasive sense of indifference among the staff and administration. Concerns and feedback from students are often dismissed or ignored, creating an environment where students feel undervalued and unsupported. This lack of responsiveness and care from the academy’s leadership significantly detracts from the overall educational experience and student morale.

In conclusion, Warsash Maritime Academy falls far short in delivering quality education, adequate facilities, and a supportive learning environment. The decline under the new Solent management is evident and deeply disappointing. I would not recommend this institution to anyone serious about pursuing a maritime course.

Worst place to study. They don't teach you at classes and giving private lessons. Lots of indian lectures and some of them discriminating other nationalities. Disgusting to witness their behavior.not a place with good environment to learn .

Attended for HUET with CA-EBS. Excellent presentation by Mike Blood and team, giving a much needed refresher and update on offshore safety.
My only suggestions for improvement are too much time wasted on enrolment paperwork, and standing by poolside at Andark. Parallel in-water exercises could ease time constrained pool access.
    Thanks for your good work.

Excellent service and helpful staff, I really enjoyed updating my lifeboat and sea survival qualification. Working for the Royal Fleet Ancillary Service, we carry out lifeboat drills weekly, as a qualified Emergency Equipment maintainer, it's great to see the full range of Sea Survival Equipment and how to use them.

Totally ruined by the utterly futile, ridiculous mask wearing regime (though instructors wore plastic peak masks that would not stop a golf ball entering their mouths) inside the pool environment. Covid nonsense is made for people like this

I attended the basic offshore safety training course. Amazing experience! The tutors have tons of experience and they teach so many useful things. I would totally recommend the course. The only negative is the staff at the reception.. did not look very eager to help much

If you are coming through kunal anshuman then please don't come because he's a thug Not recommended to overseas student. Only best thing is you get work visa. Study wise it's not good. Don't have any bridge equipments. If you think of coming here then you better study everything because in college you won't learn anything. Facilities are ok and faculty is ok. Strictly not recommended to Indian students.

Wonderful place let down by solent. Sadly you won't study at this fantastic site on the waters edge now, and Solent are interested only in the money and seem to have no understanding or concern about what goes into a maritime cadetship. Great shame.

Great School and facilities but unfortunately (as it was here 10 years ago) the cadets (and some of the company sponsored people) have little respect for short course students that are spending close to 2000 UKP to be here for a week of training. More importantly on Thursday nights - the nights before exams.
