Whilst also available as a standalone course the Updated Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (UPST) course is usually taken as a module included in the STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training Refresher (STCW-R) Course.

The U.K. MCA Approved STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training Refresher (STCW-R) Course, offered over 1½ days, is mandatory to be taken every five years for all seafarers who have already undergone the complete STCW 2010 Basic Safety Training Course. The Refresher Course meets the requirements of the STCW familiarisation and basic safety training update in accordance with section A-VI/1 of the STCW code and includes the following modules:

• Updated Proficiency in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (UFPFF)
• Updated Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (UPST)

Those seafarers who also require refresher courses to update:

• Advanced Firefighting (UAFF) and 
• Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (UPSC&RB)

certificates, can take these courses immediately following the two basic course refreshers at additional cost (9,500 THB for each course). The 4 module combined STCW 2010 Basic and Advanced Updating will be completed in 3 days.

Galileo Maritime Academy is directly accredited by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) of the Department of Transport of the United Kingdom to issue MCA Approved Certificates.

Entry Requirements

Holds a valid PST certificate (STCW Code A-VI/1-2)
ENG 1 medical certificate or acceptable alternative.
Note. ENG 1 is not available in Thailand. We are able to provide details of where to obtain a Norwegian Seafarers Medical, which is an acceptable equivalent, obtainable in Bangkok.
