The EDH course is a mandatory step for crew progressing toward the Officer of the Watch (OOW <3000GT) Certificate of Competency. It provides the essential seamanship skills and operational knowledge required for both private and commercial vessels.

Course Content

• Mooring, anchoring, cargo handling, and shipboard routines
• Knots, splicing, ropework, and rigging
• Watchkeeping duties and bridge procedures
• Safety equipment, emergency operations, and vessel stability

Delivered at our maritime training centre in Phuket under IYT approval, in line with MCA standards.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age: 17 years
At least 6 months of documented sea service on vessels 15m or larger (Category C and D waters accepted at full rate)

Must meet one of the following qualification routes:

Yachtmaster Offshore (MCA-accepted)
Yacht Rating Certificate of Proficiency + 6 months sea time + Steering Certificate
Navigational Watch Rating Certificate of Proficiency
Boatmaster Licence (Tier 1 Level 2)
Tug Rating Certificate of Proficiency + 6 months service + Steering Certificate or NWR CoP
Enrolled in an MCA-approved cadet programme
Fishing vessel route: UK Class 1 or 2 Fishing CoC or Seafish Under 16.5m Skipper’s Certificate + 6 months service
